When passing Marcilly-le-Châtel, don’t miss a stop at this fortress with its black stone, standing above the vines. You may even see a few birds of prey circling the castle towers. Why not take a closer look? People are always attracted by the height: there’s a spectacular panorama from the top, take a breath of fresh air while walking through the vineyards and there’s guaranteed laughter during the Volerie du Forez shows.

Explore

An enigmatic castle, dozens of aviaries, three shows… There’s enough to keep you and your family busy for a whole afternoon at the Volerie. Forget all the animal shows you’ve seen in the past… Here, birds of prey, owls and parrots stage their own show… alongside bird handler Stéphane Du Forez.

Only a few kilometres away, you will discover a beautiful Renaissance residence built on the hillside, the Château de Goutelas, before the road steepens towards the priory of Montverdun. Once you reach the top of this basaltic peak, you will be impressed by the 360° view.

Enjoy

A little break for refreshment at the Auberge de la Cesarde and you can set off on horseback along the Forez paths. For heritage lovers, push open the door of the winegrowers’ museum at the Château de Boën and trace the history of the local area and the traditions linked to the vineyard.
